Biography

Rajarshi Biswas is an accomplished contemporary painter and art educator whose practice spans more than three decades. A Gold Medalist from Rabindra Bharati University—where he earned both his BFA (1997) and MFA (1999) in Painting—Biswas is known for his mastery of oil, watercolor, acrylic, and experimental drawing techniques, often blending these with digital art and photography. His work reflects a deep engagement with art history and contemporary visual culture, exploring multiple disciplines and methods to create layered, thought-provoking images.

Over the years, Biswas has exhibited widely across India and abroad, with significant shows at venues such as the Lalit Kala Akademi in New Delhi, the Birla Academy of Art & Culture in Kolkata, and international platforms in Korea, Bangladesh, and Pondicherry. Recent highlights include *Echoes in Form* (2025, Nandan Gallery, Santiniketan) and *A Season of Conviviality* (2022, Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi). His paintings are represented in notable galleries including Art Today (New Delhi), Akar Prakar and Aakriti (Kolkata), and reside in private collections across India and overseas.

An influential teacher at Kala Bhavana, Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan, Biswas shares his diverse technical knowledge with students, emphasizing experimentation and contextual understanding of mediums. His numerous workshops—spanning community initiatives to professional artist gatherings—reflect his commitment to collaborative learning and cultural exchange. Recognized with prestigious honors such as the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant (USA, 2005) and the Camlin Art Foundation Europe Art Tour Award (2003), Rajarshi Biswas continues to shape the contemporary art landscape through both his creative practice and his dedication to nurturing the next generation of artists.
